The NASCAR Sprint Cup series visited Bristol Motor Speedway on Sunday night and, as usual, yellow fever took over the race with many cautions seen throughout the night. Kevin Harvick, who started on pole, led the early running of the race. Following the competition caution on lap 60, Kyle Busch was the new leader for the restart until he received a penalty for speeding on pit road, which gave teammate Matt Kenseth the lead. Kenseth was unable to enjoy the lead for too long due to a caution on lap 68 following a spin by Josh Wise. Kenseth was able to keep the momentum going for a while, holding his lead until Team Penske’s Joey Logano was able to pass him just after 100 laps were completed.

Logano enjoyed the lead until the caution came back out on lap 125 following an accident involving Aric Almirola, Brian Vickers, Kyle Busch, Kyle Larson, Jimmie Johnson, and Clint Bowyer. Denny Hamlin held the lead following the restart. However, as he and Harvick started to battle for the lead on lap 160, Hamlin spun after contact with Harvick and hit the wall, making contact with Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr during the spin. After the incident, Hamlin threw his HANS device, which protects his neck in accidents, at Harvick as Harvick drove by. Harvick took the lead for the restart and was able to hold his lead until lap 200, when Michael Annett hit the wall. Kasey Kahne took the lead on the restart and was able to keep it until Jamie McMurray took the top spot on lap 240.

McMurray enjoyed the lead until the caution came to visit on lap 269, when Danica Patrick spun, then stalled, in turn two. On the restart, Brad Keselowski took over the lead from McMurray but the charging McMurray took it back again on lap 319. McMurray was dominant until there was yet another caution period when Marcos Ambrose hit the wall hard. McMurray kept the lead for a while longer, but Matt Kenseth took the top spot again following a caution for debris with 69 laps to go. Joey Logano, however, decided he wanted the lead more and took it with forty laps to go.

Logano went on to win the race, with Brad Keselowski, Matt Kenseth, Jimmie Johnson, and Kurt Busch rounding out the top five.
