History Repeats Itself
In the year 2015, history is concurring with past events such as World War II and the Roman period. America repeats history and denies Syrian refugees into the country after the attacks in Paris this November.
Liberals are appalled by this approach to this situation and organizations such as United to End Genocide and International Rescue Committee take action. These organizations are raising money for the Syrian refugees; however, not everyone is as concerned for these Syrian Immigrants.
Trump, a Republican candidate running for president in the elections believes that refugees shouldn’t be allowed in America. Trump isn’t the only one who thinks this; a slew of Republicans agree.
However history tends to repeat itself: In World War II, the Jewish refugees were refused by America. In the Evian Conference in December 1938, almost all the countries except for the Dominican Republic denied the Jews entrance. America again is denying the refugees in a time of need. Trump believes that if he were to become president, he would register Muslim’s just like the Nazis did to the Jews in the Holocaust, according to an ABC News video.
In The Roman era, the Romans were considered like the west, a powerful democracy. The barbarians and Huns attacked the Romans. This could be an allegory to ISIS and the west or what ISIS wants to happen to the West. The Romans considered the barbarians as terrorists. Or, ISIS can be compared to the Nazis and the downfall of them.
History is constantly evolving and repeating itself. People need to learn from history and become more advanced. History doesn’t always have to follow through the same way.
“History says that progress often requires sacrifice, but what kind of progress can we claim when it is built on the lives of the citizens it is supposed to aid?” — Joelle Charbonneau, from Independent Study.
