Now that you are legally of age to drink, why not celebrate with more than just a dinner or party? Why not Drink Around the World with an Epcot bar crawl for an extravagant, yet unique experience? Take the Epcot challenge and adventure to Drink Around the World!

What is Epcot?

Epcot is a Walt Disney World theme park in Orlando (under a four-hour drive from campus). Epcot is meant for you to travel around the globe — well the Epcot World Showcase that is (comprised of 11 model countries: Mexico, Morocco, Norway, Canada, United States, Japan, China, France, Italy, Germany, and the United Kingdom) — for you to get an authentic experience of the world through culture and cuisine. There are rides, shows, fireworks, activities, and more.

What exactly is this Epcot bar crawl/Drinking Around the World thing?

This Epcot bar crawl is simplistic; you have to sample (ideally finish) at least one drink from each of the 11 countries. You attempt to complete all of the countries the Epcot World Showcase has to offer, hence the name Drinking Around the World. You are in the authentic atmosphere of each country so it will feel like you are having a local drink in the country itself. Have some authentic food while you are there too, and snack around the world!

It should be noted that Epcot is not affiliated with Drinking Around the World; it is an unspoken occurrence likely due to the family-centered atmosphere at Walt Disney World. Supporting a surplus of drinking is not the ideal image Disney wants to give off.

How do I participate in Drink Around the World if it is not allowed at Epcot?

You can Drink Around the World even if Epcot frowns upon it. It is not illegal to do. You just have to do it yourself so it will not be formal. It will be like your own personal tour! Each country has a kid’s table, with stamps from each country. You can get stamped if you wish in each country to keep track of where you have gotten drinks. If you stay until the end of the day, you can enjoy some fireworks too!

Is there something I can buy/make to record this bar crawl?

Many people create fake passports and checklists to wear around their necks with lanyards. (Creative tip: you can even put pretzels around the lanyard for a constant snack in case you do not eat enough while drinking. Food soaks up alcohol.) These can be stamped in each country, and even have the name of the drink written onto it too.

Be aware that Epcot will not likely stamp your passport if alcohol related texts are on it since they do not want to be affiliated with it. You can buy them online on websites such as Etsy. Here is an example of a passport you can use.

Many people wear Drinking Around the World shirts. This is something you can make yourself or something you can buy online. It makes for some rad photos. You can mark off your drinks on here too. Here is an example of a shirt you could wear.

Tips to Succeed

Some things you should keep in mind are that if you cannot finish the challenge, it is quite alright. Drinking Around the World involves a lot of drinking, and it is no silly business. Do not push yourself. Everyone knows what his or her own limits are. So remember to listen to your body and stop when you need to.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, and I am referring to water here. You should be drinking more water than you would on an average day with the consumption of alcohol. You will be in the sun all day, so the last thing you want to do is pass out from dehydration from the sunny rays and alcohol. Food should also be consumed. Please do not forget to eat. Food will help soak up the alcohol in your system, and it is quite delicious.

This normally can take up most of the day, so there is no rush to drink fast. You can pace yourself. Take breaks, go on a ride, see a show; there is no prize for completing the challenge the fastest. Who would want to be a drunken mess at a Disney theme park? I would hope no one! Lastly, arrange a designated driver beforehand. Do not drink and drive.

How much does this cost?

Many students at Florida State University are Florida residents, so tickets are more affordable — roughly $100. The better deal is to spend $70 more for a 4-day pass of non-consecutive days to Disney parks.

Have no fear; if you are not a Florida resident, a one-day ticket to Epcot is roughly $115. Drinking Around the World at Epcot is much more affordable than drinking around the world through traveling. Drink prices can start ranging from $8. You can buy your tickets here.

After a full day of sun and fun you may want to spend the night in Orlando, so check out local Disney hotels for better deals with your tickets and parking needs.
