With only a couple weeks left in the spring semester, it’s easy to look forward to the summer. Summertime means big budget films coming out every week.  This summer’s films are slated to be as action-packed and funny as ever. Hopefully, they do not disappoint. Here are my most anticipated moves for this upcoming summer.

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2: May 5

Our favorite heroes in space return in this highly anticipated sequel to 2014’s surprise smash hit, Guardians of the Galaxy. Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and his gang of misfits return to continue their adventures in space and take on a new threat. With a stellar cast including Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper, as well as new additions Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone, this movie will surely bring the laughs and action to a theater near you.

Baywatch: May 25

In this reboot, Dwayne Johnson takes on the role of Mitch Buchannon, the most devoted lifeguard on the beach. Though Mitch isn’t too fond of his new recruit, former Olympian Matt Brody (Zac Effron), the two must set aside their differences to stop a massive drug-trafficking operation on the beach.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales: May 26

Captain Jack Sparrow returns for the fifth movie in the pirates’ franchise. This time, Armando Salazar, an old enemy of Jack’s, escapes from the Devil’s Triangle with the goal to kill every pirate at sea. Captain Sparrow needs to acquire the Trident of Poseidon in order to stand a chance against Captain Salazar. With the last two movies in the series struggling, hopefully Dead Men Tell No Tales helps bring the series back on track.

Wonder Woman: June 2

Gal Gadot makes her second appearance as Wonder Woman this summer in the fourth installment of DC’s Extended Universe. This will be the first of the four films that feature a female character in the lead role. This origin story takes place in the 20th century as Diana Prince, princess of the Amazons, heads to London with American pilot Steve Trevor to bring an end to World War I.

There she discovers her destiny and becomes Wonder Woman. Gadot stars alongside Chris Pine and Robin Wright in this groundbreaking superhero adventure.

The Mummy: June 9

This modern-day reboot starring Tom Cruise will be the first film in the Universal Monsters shared universe which will eventually include characters like Frankenstein, Count Dracula, and the Invisible Man. In this film, an ancient Egyptian princess is resurrected and threatens all of humanity.

Despicable Me 3: June 30

Gru and his beloved minions return to the screen this summer. When former ‘80s child star Balthazar Bratt (South Park’s Trey Parker) attempts to take over the world, Gru and his wife Lucy have to get back to work and stop him. In this film, we also get to meet Gru’s long lost twin brother, Dru. This animated comedy should make fans of all ages roar with laughter.

Spider-Man: Homecoming: July 7

The second Marvel film to come out this summer will star Tom Holland as New York’s favorite web-crawler. We were introduced to Holland’s Spider-Man in last year’s Captain America: Civil War. Now, with the help of mentor Tony Stark, Peter Parker tries to manage life as a high-school student and a superhero.

When the dangerous Vulture (played by Michael Keaton) emerges, it’s up to Peter to save New York City. Based on Holland’s impressive debut in Civil War, I expect Spider-Man: Homecoming to be a successful reboot and a great addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

War for the Planet of the Apes: July 14

The upcoming third entry to the Planet of the Apes series is destined to be the most action-packed film yet. This one picks off right where the last one left off with Caesar, the chimpanzee king of the apes, seeking vengeance after suffering devastating losses. Caesar and his army are pitted against a human colonel (Woody Harrelson) who is determined to exterminate the apes. Get ready for the most entertaining battle of the summer.

The Dark Tower: August 4

Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey bring Stephen King’s epic novel series to life. This film follows 11-year-old Jake Chambers and knight Roland Deschain as they embark on a journey to the Dark Tower to save their world from extinction. However, various creatures and sorcerer Walter Padick give the duo a difficult time. This sci-fi western is one you will not want to miss.
