James Ryan is the Dean of the Harvard University Graduate School of Education, with many more credentials to his name. Before becoming a dean at Harvard, Ryan was the Matheson & Morgenthau Distinguished Professor at the University of Virginia School of Law. Here he founded the Law and Public Service program.

Ryan’s book offers insight into asking good questions and how those questions and answers contribute to the overall success of your life. The book includes humorous stories about his life and stories from social movements, popular culture, and politics. The press release explains that the book will certainly change the reader’s perception about the way we ask and think about questions.

These are typical questions that you may ask throughout your everyday life, but the book introduces a fresh new depth into these yet powerful questions. This is an excerpt taken from the press release about the five essential questions:

“1. Wait, what? is at the root of all understanding.
2. I wonder . . . ? is at the heart of all curiosity.
3. Couldn’t we at least? is the beginning of all progress.
4. How can I help? is the basis of all good relationships.
5. What truly matters? gets you to the heart of life.”
