Find Your Zen, Drink Some Tea

By Rita Skaff on October 30, 2012

Introduced to me during my first quarter of my freshman year, the best go-to place to eat in Columbus is undoubtedly ZenCha Tea Salon. A steady customer of the Short North location, I was pleasantly surprised to find there is a shiny and new location in downtown Columbus. With its relaxing atmosphere, ZenCha is sure to please. Its menu is different enough to branch out a little, but you don’t have to possess an adventurous palate to eat there. If you’re going on Saturday or Sunday, explore the Weekend Brunch from 10 am-2pm. The menu offers pancakes, as well as waffles with names like Earl Grey’s Choice and Arabian Night. Seasonal Favorites range from reliable Spinach Parmesan Quiche to adventurous Shrimp and Bacon Grits.

Should you value your precious mornings to sleep in or put off eating food until later in the day, lunch is equally appealing. With several tempting appetizer options, you’ll want to order more than one. One of the most tasty appetizer duos is Edamame with sea salt paired with a Honey and Cheese Crostini (topped with goat cheese, a light sprinkling of cayenne, almond slices and dried cranberries). There are several soup, salad and sandwich options like the Earl Grey Apple Brie sandwich or Seared Tuna Salad. For Entrees, I strongly suggest trying the Miso Ramen. It’s warm and filling; you won’t want to stop eating, even if you’ve been extremely full for the past ten minutes. If you still have room for dessert, there are tea cookies and scones, Mango Creme Brule, cheesecake, or the sampler if you’re feeling bold.

Last, but especially not least, try their tea! There is a myriad of tea flavors that can be prepared any way you like. The real rock star of the tea menu, however, is the bubble tea. Speaking as someone who has tried every flavor of bubble tea, it’s really easy to stick with the first one you like. I challenge you to try at least three different kinds of bubble tea. If it’s your first time trying bubble tea, I suggest starting with Vanilla or Peach. Regardless of what food or drink you try, you’re sure to walk away pleased with the service and with a (literal) sweet taste in your mouth.

If this article makes your mouth water, head to ZenCha Tea Salon with locations in the Short North, Bexley, and Downtown Columbus. You won’t regret it!
