Why Adele is Still Rolling in the Deep

At the 55th Grammy Awards, hosted by LL Cool J on CBS, Adele won the Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance for Set Fire to the Rain (Live) against fellow nominees Kelly Clarkson for What Doesn’t Kill You (Stronger), Rihanna for Where Have You Been, Carly Rae Jepsen for Call Me Maybe, and Katy Perry for Wide Awake. Last year, Adele won six Grammys with her album 21.

Even over a year later, Adele’s 21 is still selling and you’ll hear Rolling in the Deep on the radio. So why is everyone so in love with this British goddess?

1. She can actually sing live. Adele has no need for autotune. When she performs, her songs sound either just as good, if not better, than they do on her record. She won her most recent Grammy for her live performance of Set Fire to the Rain. She has the talent to go with her numerous Grammys; she can actually sing.

2. She’s hilarious. If you’ve ever heard Adele give an acceptance speech or interview, you know she’s a riot. With a “say what you’re thinking” sort of attitude, she just speaks without really thinking about what she’s saying, which leads to brutal honesty and hilarity. She’s similar to Jennifer Lawrence in this regard; they don’t really have a filter.

3. She’s real. Adele is not a starving blond or perfect celebrity; she is real and relatable and manages to look beautiful while not conforming to society’s parameters for it. She manages to remain humble even after winning so many awards and skyrocketing to mass stardom.

4. Her songs are, quite simply, awesome. The power and emotion behind Adele’s songs make them the perfect soundtrack for a good cry, a girl-power rant, or for bashing your ex-boyfriend. And guys secretly like her too.

For all these reasons and more, I was screaming out Adele’s name for the win when she was up for her latest grammy against commendable competition. And win she did.
