SmartSex App Takes Sex-Ed Beyond the Classroom and Into Your SmartPhone

By Joely Friedman on October 14, 2013

Most people probably didn’t enjoy the sex education class that they were forced to take in high school. The whole experience is awkward, the diagrams are uncomfortable, and nobody really values what the teacher is talking about because most of us weren’t sexually active or experienced at all in ninth grade.

Thankfully, technology has come to the rescue once again. If you find yourself pondering a question about sex, whether it be about health or pleasure, there is an app for you! Pando Health Resources has recently launched a new app available to iPhone users that will answer all of your questions, so if you didn’t pay attention during your ninth grade sex education class, fear not. SmartSex has got your back.

If you have the iPhone, iPad, or the iPod touch (and you are older than eighteen) then this app is accessible to you.

The SmartSex app is about much more than just sexual health information. After downloading the app, you can read about how to fully enjoy the act of love-making, and since it is conveniently on your phone, you can do so on the bus, in class, or whenever it’s convenient for you.

The app is pretty easy to maneuver. There are five tabs on the app: games, info, polls, news, and about the app. The games tab has three different categories, ‘all about sex,’ ‘sex myth,’ and ‘sex health.’ On the info tab you can learn about any sex topic from intimate violence to condom comebacks. On the polls tab you can partake in answering a personal question if you are feeling up to reflecting on your past decisions and having your cell phone judge you. The news tab is just a page with some interesting recent news articles about sex, such as an article about sensual ways of undressing. I found this very interesting, and not exclusively common sense advice.

This app definitely has good intentions, but there were some grammatical errors that I found distracting. Still, I think it could still be a useful app for those of you who can overlook mispunctuations and want to learn more about sex from the comfort of your iPhone.

Being nineteen years old and not at all doctor, it is not politically correct for me to be giving sexual advice, but I am going to say one thing:

If you are having questions or are confused about anything sexual, I would recommend talking to your partner (if you have one of course) or talking to someone you trust or respect, like a parent, older sibling, or doctor.

Google-ing sexual questions will probably lead you to some bad information or a misdiagnosed cancer. But, if you do not feel comfortable talking to someone about your questions, this app is a good place to turn. All of the information is reliable and some of it is really interesting. Who knew that semen can work as a type of toothpaste? I learned from the app that it contains small amounts of both calcium and zinc, as well as other minerals that prevent your teeth from decaying over time. I am sure men all over the world will be sharing this one with their girlfriends and wives…

If you download this app and have any reviews of your own please feel free to share, and stay safe, everyone.
