10 Things Bound To Happen During This Football Season

By Victoria Robertson on September 3, 2015

Who doesn’t love football? The all-American sport has been around forever, and it’s finally that time of year again: football season is upon us ladies and gentlemen.

And because it’s human nature to keep things (at least relatively) the same, this season will probably be no different from the last. So in order to dust off my fairly average prediction skills, here are 10 things that are bound to happen during this football season.

So get the grills and coolers of beer ready for tailgating and stop talking to fans of rival teams, because it’s football time.

1. The first game of the season will be hyped up.

It’s time to break out the trash talking and pull those jerseys out from the back of your closet because football season is finally here.

So order up some Buffalo Wild Wings, grab a few beers and brace yourself, because that first game is going to be amazing!

2. It will inevitably fall short of everyone’s expectations.

Too bad it usually isn’t all that amazing. You’re going to talk the first game up for so long, that by the time it actually comes around, you’re going to be slightly bored.

But hey, at least the build-up was fun!

3. The start of the season will be extremely hot.

Sitting in bleachers crowded with drunk, obnoxious people sitting shoulder to shoulder and getting heated about the game may sound fun, but not really.

Especially when the start of the season is too hot for comfort. The calendar may say fall, but your incessant sweating and complete discomfort begs to differ.

4. It will immediately become unbearably cold.

Of course, in a few weeks, you’re going to be begging for that heat wave to come back, and you promise you won’t complain anymore about the temperature.

Because when that cold weather hits, you spend most of the game attempting to reanimate your toes and praying that you don’t have frostbite.

5. You’ll complain about the refs.

Call it both ways! That was a terrible call. Hey ref, check your phone, I think you missed a few calls!

Ah, the creativity of heckling the refs. It’ll never get old, it just won’t.

6. You’ll get into a heated argument with a fellow fan.

It doesn’t matter if that fan is a rival or if you’re both cheering on the same team, if there’s even the slightest disagreement between the two of you, you’re prepared to argue with their opinions with your own opinions.

Of course, you’ll both toss in a fact here and there, but for the most part, it’ll be two idiots that are pointlessly arguing because their team is at the bottom of the bunch anyway.

7. You’ll come across a person with far too many questions.

Guys typically suffer this one the most, but every major sports fan can feel the pain of being continuously interrupted so that a friend/girlfriend/boyfriend can play 20 questions over and over until you swear you’re at your breaking point.

Unfortunately, there’s nothing you can do once you’re in this position, so here’s to hoping you can successfully blow off these friends come game time.

8. Your favorite player will get hurt.

It happens every season. And for some reason, it usually makes the game a little less interesting.

If your favorite player isn’t on that field, your eyes glaze over around the third period. Rather than praying they don’t get hurt, let’s accept the inevitability of their injury and hope this year they have a quick recovery.

9. You’ll go through the entire range of emotions … during every game.

PMS has nothing on football season. You’ll be angry, upset, thrilled and completely depressed during nearly every game of the season.

Non-fans may refer to it as bi-polar disorder, but you know that uncontrollable emotion comes with the territory of being a football fan.

10. You’ll be glad the season’s over come winter.

And as the season draws to a close, and your team has been long absent from the playoffs, you’ll actually be content with seeing football leave until fall comes back around.

There’s only so much disappointment a person can handle in one season, so it’s best to rest up for a few months before you’re thrown back into it come fall.

Football is the one constant in our lives that we’re disappointed with, thrilled about and overall happy to see come and go with the seasons. So get excited about this coming season, and here’s to hoping something even slightly unique happens!
