4 Ways To Get Pumped Before A Test

By Kylie Exline on June 13, 2016

When going into a test, there are various ways to become motivated. You can run through your carefully assorted and color coordinated index cards, do a few jumping jacks, or accept your imminent failure. The choice is yours.

The way we want to be no matter what is optimistic. Positivity brings about change, or something like that.

Regardless, read below to figure out how to be pumped for a test.

(Warning: you may feel the desire to take a test when finished reading this article. If this is the case, feel free to visit http://www.sporcle.com/games/g/states and test your state knowledge. As a way of motivation, I finished all 50 with 4:54 remaining).

Don’t think about it.

Alright, so this may sound dumb, but I promise, it can work. Sometimes the best thing to do in a stressful situation is to not think about it. And although it may sound extremely difficult, you can make it through. I have high hopes.

You can eat your favorite food beforehand, maybe drink a beer if you are fully (somewhat) prepared, and even take a quick nap. Make sure to set those alarms though because missing the exam is actually the last thing we need right now.

The point is to not think about it because chances are, that is all you have been thinking about. Your brain needs a break before it needs to answer questions on an exam. This way, you can go into it feeling free, prepared, and excited for it all to be over.

Focus on the celebration.

Who does not like to think about the party after a test? Exactly, no one. Even if this entails a much-deserved nap or chocolate sundae, it is call for a celebration.

After all of the preparation, or lack thereof, you are bound to be exhausted. So make plans for Friday’s happy hour, and think of the great times you will be sharing in a few agonizing days. If this does not pump you up, I am not sure what will.

Before a test, I like to think of when it will be over because then I know there is nothing more I could have done. May sound slightly weird, but it helps me focus on what I do know and motivates me to do well.

Or at least realize that this will not be the end of the world for me. I solemnly swear, guys, you will survive many tests in your lifetime. Do not sweat.

Jam to your jams.

This is a must and I am sure many people out there have their specific playlist to get them going. Basically, what is the song you would run out on the court jamming to if about to play in the Finals? Well, there it is. That is your personal jam.

This can motivate you for a test for obvious reasons. You are in a good mood, feel as if you are invincible, and know that success is the only answer. Even if we did not completely prepare ourselves for this test, it is better to stay hyped in case we actually do better than expected. There is always room for that.

If listening to some music does not encourage you, then you definitely need to find and listen to new music. Just think about it. It makes sense.

Study some more.

This is all the motivation you need, right? I mean, you definitely do not want to fail a test, which results in failing the class, which results in you wasting money. Not the best idea.

Pull those flashcards out, and run through them again. You can never be too prepared. Just make sure to not confuse yourself, especially if this is your 23rd time going over the questions today alone. Take a break, buddy. As in, wait for the inevitable.

Studying can be the best motivation because you are working to achieve something. You have been studying a study guide, notes, or an outline, so the material should in no way be foreign to you.

If anything, you should know too much. This is always good if there are written sections included. This way, write what you know and maybe even what you do not know. Worth a shot.

To pump ourselves up for a test, we have to be motivated. There is no doubt about that. There are various ways to do so, and not all of them will be for us, but there is always the moment to try.

We can focus on not thinking about it and how it will affect our GPA, focus on the after party taking place directly after the test, what songs we will be hardcore jamming to, and the fact that we should probably be spending our last few minutes continuing to study.

Regardless of what we choose to do, there is one thing for sure: we have a test. So stop worrying about it and try your best. Then take a shot to help you forget about it.
