Journalism is a great major to study. You get to learn so much while doing some pretty cool things.

However, deadlines and unresponsive contacts can make things seem complicated. In times when you feel like giving up, there are shows and movies that can give any journalism major the inspiration needed.

The Carrie Diaries

The Carrie Diaries is the prequel to Sex in the City. It is two seasons long and documents Carrie Bradshaw’s adventures in New York City as she is interning at a fashion magazine in her high school years. It is based on the novel of the same name. While the show is no longer on TV, it is currently on Netflix.

Beauty and the Briefcase

Beauty and the Briefcase is a made-for-TV movie that aired on ABC Family (now Freeform). The movie is based on the novel “Diary of a Working Girl” by Daniella Brodsky and is about two friends trying to get a story idea to the editors at Cosmopolitan. A love story emerges alongside the journalism work. The movie can be streamed on Netflix and is also available for purchase through many outlets.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days tells the tale of Andie, a writer at Composure Magazine who is writing a story about how to lose a guy. Benjamin, the man she is attempting to lose, is simultaneously trying to make her fall in love with him over a period of 10 days. They go on dates and check in with their friends and coworkers about the progress they are making in their quests.

Spotlight

Spotlight is one of the most famous documentaries about journalism. It tells the story about how the Boston Globe unveiled the scandal of the child molestation scandal and cover-up in the local Catholic Archdiocese. The documentary was released in 2015 and went on to win numerous awards, including two Oscars.

The Bold Type

The Bold Type is one of the most popular TV shows in summer 2017. The show follows the life of three women who work for Scarlett Magazine. The show is inspired by the women who work at Cosmo. It is being lauded as a feminist show that is very much needed, especially when it comes to the powerful female friendships that are portrayed in the show. It shows strong women who are able to be successful in their careers and relationships.
