"Check Your Blind Spots" for Diversity and Inclusion

By Danielle Wirsansky on October 20, 2017

Action for Diversity & Inclusion™, the largest CEO-driven business commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion within the workplace in the U.S., has announced their latest innovation: the “Check Your Blind Spots” college campus tour.

According to a recent press release, the tour will provide students with the opportunity to participate in “an interactive and engaging experience about diversity and inclusion.”

To do so, “a mobile vehicle will travel to each participating campus and students will be invited to participate in multi-media experiences focused on the issue of blind spots — including watching a video that will introduce them to the nuances of unconscious bias and taking an implicit association test that will help them identify their own potential biases.”

While 92 percent of Gen Z-ers (currently college freshmen and sophomores) care about social issues and are concerned for the future and at least 75 percent of students believe that companies should support important social issues, there is always more for students to learn. It is true that many college students have been raised in an age where they are more cognizant of the diversity issues our society faces, and the tour is meant to highlight bias blind spots that they may not even be aware exist around them.

The tour kicked off at Villanova University on October 17, and continue to visit college campuses throughout October to help increase students awareness of their own biases and inspire them to take action and be advocates in regards to diversity and inclusion both at work and in their communities.
